For Individuals Undergoing Treatment:

  • Communicate Your Needs:

    • ☑ Express how they can best provide support, whether it’s through active listening, practical assistance, or companionship.
  • Join a Support Group:
    • ☑ Explore local or online breast cancer support groups.
    • ☑ Attend support group meetings or forums to connect with others who share similar experiences.
  • Seek Professional Support:
    • ☑ Consider scheduling regular sessions with a Therapist or Counsellor.
    • ☑ Discuss your Fears and Concerns , your emotional well-being and any coping strategies during treatment.
  • Lean on Friends and Family:
    • ☑ Share your thoughts and feelings with loved ones.
    • ☑ Accept help when offered especially if you have to go through extensive treatment like Chemotherapy and or Surgery – communicate specific needs where help may be needed.
  • Mindfulness and Relaxation Techniques:
    • ☑ Practice mindfulness, meditation, or relaxation exercises regularly.
    • ☑ Explore any resources or classes. There are many free classes on YouTube and a number of Paid Apps that you can download on your phone. 
  • Express Yourself Creatively:
    • ☑ Engage in creative outlets like writing, art, or music, journaling, blogging .
    • ☑ Use creative expression as a way to cope with emotions.

  For Friends and Family Providing Support:

  • Be a Good Listener:
    • ☑ Listen empathetically without judgement.
    • ☑ Allow the individual undergoing treatment to express their feelings openly without judgement.
  • Educate Yourself:
    • ☑ Learn as much as you can about about breast cancer and treatment options.
    • ☑ Be informed to better understand and support your loved one.
  • Accompany to Appointments:
    • ☑ Offer to accompany your loved one to their various medical appointments.
    • ☑ Provide a supportive and encouraging presence during consultations.
  • Assist with Practical Matters:
    • ☑ Offer help with daily tasks, such as grocery shopping, meal preparation, or household chores.
    • ☑ Assist with any practical matters to alleviate stress
  • Respect Their Emotions:
    • ☑ Understand that emotions may fluctuate during treatment.
    • ☑ Provide support without judgement and be patient.
  • Check-In Regularly:
    • ☑ Regularly check in on your loved one’s emotional well-being.
    • ☑ Ask how they’re feeling and if they need additional support.
  • Encourage Self-Care:
    • ☑ Encourage your loved one to prioritize self-care.
    • ☑ Suggest activities they enjoy for relaxation and well-being.
